The Cambodia mall designed by RSP Architects Planners & Engineers was recognised for its retail design at the 2019 PropertyGuru Cambodia Property Award.

The prestigious PropertyGuru Cambodia Property Awards celebrates the country’s most ambitious and innovative properties, and seeks to promote excellence in development, design and innovation within the real estate industry. Recognised for its innovative architectural design, PH Diamond Place where RSP is the architectural facade and landscape designer clinched Best Retail Architecture Design Award at this year’s awards.

Nestled along Hun Sen Boulevard, a major arterial road in Phnom Penh, PH Diamond Place serves as a gateway mall connecting the upcoming satellite city centre with the existing Central Business District, and is envisioned as a family-oriented lifestyle destination offering a premier shopping experience. Developed by Peng Huoth Group, the mall is part of the Star Diamond mixed-use development comprising luxurious residences, offices and conference halls.

The architectural facade design for PH Diamond Place is inspired by the dynamism of Cambodia’s culture and growth. This dynamism is reflected in the fluidity of a continuous ribbon that flows around the building, forming grand arches that demarcate entrances into the mall. The four main arch entrances extend into the mall to reveal tall shopping arcades, achieving spatial continuity from outside to inside. These arcades culminate in a grand atrium space marked by a star-shaped skylight that fills the interior with soft natural light. Apertures at each corner of the building frame double-volume billboards that engage the street corner and draw visual interest.

The facade and landscape design of PH Diamond Place harmonise to create an experiential journey of visiting the mall as a destination. Driving along Hun Sen Boulevard from the CBD, a prominent media wall marks the corner of the development. Turning into the development from the highway, one is greeted by the feature skybar that terraces down to the street corner. This terracing reveals the roof garden at its peak, creating layers of spaces, activity and greenery that beckons the visitor to explore the mall within. This ‘peek-a-boo’ effect is reinforced as shoppers drive past the grand arch which reveals the mall’s interior and shelters the main entrance drop-off before entering the car park. Sheltered walkways funnel visitors from the car park into a covered spine flanked by flowering trees, back into the mall.

This succession of landscaped public spaces is carefully staged to welcome visitors with lush greenery, flowing landscapes and activities. Four different landscape design themes – Welcome Mat, Urban Steps, Garden Alfresco and Water Plaza – respond to the diverse activities of the mall and connect to the surrounding context. This stitching of public spaces weaves the mall into the surrounding urban fabric as the new hub of the community.

Vibrant, progressive and engaging, PH Diamond Mall promises to be a beacon for evolving lifestyle pursuits in a sea of change.
