A second feat for Singapore’s train network

14 January 2020

Canberra station is the second train station in Singapore built on an operational train line following our engineering feat for Dover station.

Opened by Singapore Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan on 1 November 2019, Canberra station was built to meet the growing community and developments in the northern region of Singapore.

Canberra is the second train station in Singapore to be built on an operational train line after Dover station which RSP was also involved in. Building a station on an operational line is challenging. The working hours and work space for construction are limited, while having to minimise the disruption to the existing train service.

Drawing from our experience from the Dover station, we worked closely with the different stakeholders to put in place special safety measures and controls as well as on detailed plans of how works would be carried out.

The station is designed with five access points that are connected to the neighbouring residential and recreational areas. Aligning with the government’s push to improve cycling infrastructure, more than 200 bicycle parking lots have also been made available.

With the opening of the new station, more than 17,000 more households located within a 10-minute walking distance of the station will enjoy time savings when travelling towards the central and western part of Singapore.
