NAS Building

A safe haven for history

The Project

The National Archives of Singapore (NAS) at 1 Canning Rise will be revamped with a modern look and upgraded facilities, creating a welcoming and efficient space for the institution's core functions of collecting, preserving and providing access to millions of historical records.

New facilities include a new theatre and boardroom within the former ACS school hall.

Modern and enhanced facilities

The Challenge

Originally the Anglo-Chinese Primary School building, the structure’s original concrete scallop canopy and veranda was reinstated to preserve the historical character of the building. To complement URA's plans to pedestrianise Armenian Street, street fencing was pushed back and public walkways introduced.

A voluminous area with double-volume space serve as a flexible space for events and exhibitions.
